What Common Knowledge Should Filter Press Operators Have?

Filter presses have significant results in the field of wastewater treatment. If you want to achieve the ideal filtration effect, you must be able to operate the filter press correctly to maximize its effect. Therefore, the requirements for filter press operators must be higher. This article will introduce some knowledge that filter press operators should have.

Basic Requirements

Filter press operators should be trained and have basic operating skills.
Filter press operators should be familiar with the working principle and performance of the filter press before taking up the job.

Check Before Starting

Before starting, check the main beam, oil cylinder, head and tail, filter cloth pull plate device, etc., and check whether the pull plate and other limit switches and alarms are in place normally.
Check whether the oil tank, oil pump, oil level, and pressure gauge are normal.

Specific Operations

  • Turn on the power
Turn on the main switch, motor, solenoid valve, and control power switch in sequence on the power distribution panel of the filter, press the electrical control cabinet, and press the power on button.
  • Press the filter plate tightly
Press the pressing button on the machine head, and the indicator light of pressing the filter plate will light up. After reaching a certain pressure, the filter plate will stop moving, and the thruster will drop to prepare for feeding and filtering.
  • Feed filter press
After the head plate is pressed tightly, if the concentration does not meet the requirements, add a flocculant, notify the low-pressure feed pump to start, and perform pressure filtration. When the supply of the low-pressure feed pump reaches about 3kg/cm², in order to ensure the continuity of the supply, the high-pressure feed pump must be After feeding, the high-pressure pump pressurizes and filters, and then the low-pressure pump can be turned off.
  • Loosen the filter plate
According to the condition of the filter plate, after confirming that the filtration press is completed, lift the thruster before pressing the release button on the machine head.
  • Pull plate to unload filter cake
After the head plate is loosened and stops moving, the filter press starts to automatically pull the plate to unload the material. If the filter cake is stuck to the filter cloth or does not fall off cleanly, the filter cake should be removed manually to prevent contamination of the filtrate. After each piece of filter cake is unloaded, the filter cloth should be inspected. When the damage is serious, it should be replaced in time. Whenever the filter plates are closed, pay attention to observe that the filter cloth cannot be folded or overlapped, and the four sides must be flat. When all the filter cakes on the filter cloth are removed, the working cycle of the filter press ends.
  • Turn off the power
After filtration, turn off the power and stop the filter press.

This depends on your process. Cloth selection is as much an art as it is a science. Based on our 1,000 years of combined experience and lab testing, we can make an expert recommendation to you. We supply cloths based on criteria you give us and based on sample processing we do in our lab. Should your process change, we recommend that your cloth type be evaluated for suitability.

The following is general information to help you understand cloths and how they work. For detailed questions, call our customer service department at 800.245..

Cloths for non-gasketed plates are hung over the plate, extending from top to bottom, and are held in place by eyelets that fit over the cloth-pins on top of the plates. With the non-gasketed plate, the filter cloth provides the seal between the plates. Leakage will occur during operation even though Evoqua supplies the non-gasketed plate cloths with latex edging. The latex will cut down the wicking action somewhat, but will not eliminate it.

The gasketed plate allows less leakage than the non-gasketed plate due to an O-ring seal around the chamber and filtration ports. The gasketed cloth has a high-density sash cord sewn around the cloth's perimeter that is caulked into a groove on the plate.

The type of cloth used is determined by the type of process or application performed by the filter press, the operating environment, and the performance required by the filtering media (filter cloths).

The filter cloths come in many different materials including polypropylene, polyester, cotton, and other synthetic materials. The cloths are made from monofilament fibers, multifilament fibers, or spun fibers. The smooth surface characteristic of monofilament fibers can help to improve cake release properties. The uniform circumference of monofilaments also enables fabrics to be produced with consistent pore sizes. Multifilament and spun fibers are produced by twisting several smaller diameter monofilament fibers together into a single strand. They are used to produce fabrics that require a very tight weave and fabrics where high flow rates are not critical.

Filter cloths also come in many different styles of fabric weave.

Mesh opening or pore size is also an important consideration when selecting the
